How much does a website cost?

Many factors impact on the cost of you website, such as:

  • How graphics intensive your site is
  • Website functionality
  • Web hosting
  • Domain registration

A basic CMS website can start at $800 and take anything from 2 weeks or a month to complete. The more functionality you require, the longer it will take to complete your site, and the more costly it becomes.

What does URL stand for?

It stands for "universal resource locator". This is the address typed in to the browser address bar. For example, you typed in http://www.baobabwebsolutions.com.au to access our home page.

What is a domain name?

It’s a specific name that you register with an official register of domain names ending in e.g. com.au. This ensures that nobody else can use your name / URL. Registration renewal is usually every two years. We do not register domains, but can assist with the registration if you require

What is website hosting?

You have to host your site on a server so that it is accessible on the internet. We do not host website, but can recommend a few. Baobab can also assist in the setup if you require.

What is site maintenance?

This implies updating your website content. We will setup a website for you that will enable you to update your own site content without you knowing any code (CMS).

What is FTP?

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a method of transferring files from your PC to your web host server. We can recommend free ftp software and will show you how to use it as part of your CMS training. This is recommended for bulk uploads, but the CMS does enable you to upload e.g. images without using ftp clients.

What can a website do for me?

How long does it take to have my website designed?

This depends on the graphic complexity and website functionality required. Most common delay is due to content writing and graphic approvals, but it can take anything form 2 weeks to a few months. Please see Tips section regarding content writing and the ‘get me thinking about my website’ section.

Can I see how many visitors viewed my site?

Joomla! CMS enable you to see exactly how many times each article has been accessed. Your host will also provide this information in a more comprehensive format.

Do I have to pay for my content updates?

No, we will give you training as part of your website design package and the CMS will enable you to update your website yourself using editing similar to Word.

Can I add more pages to the site later?

Yes, will give you training as part of your website design package. We are however available for any additional training and advice.

Do you redesign existing sites?

Yes, graphic overhaul or Information Architecture – we do it all!

What if I do not like the design?

The cost will include your choice in layout and amendment to graphics; you will be given options and the opportunity to do changes. It is very important that you are happy with what your site looks like and that it truly reflects your business.

Who owns the site?

The site is your property, and you can change the password when the site design is done.

Do I need an information architect?

If you have a large scale website or intranet and users are struggling to find what they are looking for, or there are huge issues with adding content then you need an information architect.

How much does information architect cost?

First consultation is free; thereafter our professional services are priced by the hour. The consultation is needed to do an assessment to see what your needs are.

Why should I do a usability study?

Users might be missing important information or a call to action due to the placement or wording being used on a specific page. Usability studies can assist in pinpointing these

What can the CMS offer me?
